Doorway Four: Luminous Love, Day 3

Donna

Advent Song

lyrics:

Look, God, look

in the vastness of your dark

hear this song

in the chorus of the world

where I sing

for the glory of your coming

held by love

as the music pours from me

a flame within

as the night falls around me

hear my prayer

and come through the darkness

hold me waiting

as you wait to be born.

Throughout this Advent, we have been held in our waiting by the One who is waiting to be born. The music of our prayer flows out from the divine spark within us. This inner light is a reflection of God's Light, much like the moon reflects the light of the sun. We don't create this light, but we can welcome it, bask in it, and reflect it to others.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the light,

that all... through him might believe.

He was not that light, but was sent

to bear witness of that light. (John 1:6-8, KJV)

As you come to the end of this Advent journey, crossing the threshold into Christmas, how might you (like John the Baptist) bear witness to the light coming into the world?

How might you open more and more to the light of Christ, especially in this season?

What broken places, in and near you, hidden by shadow and grief, need illumination?

How are you called to be a light for others?

Blessed Are You Who Bear the Light

Blessed are you

who bear the light in unbearable times, who testify to its endurance amid the unendurable, who bear witness

to its persistence when everything seems

in shadow and grief.

Blessed are you in whom the light lives,

in whom the brightness blazes— your heart

a chapel, an altar where

in the deepest night

can be seen the fire that shines forth in you in unaccountable faith, in stubborn hope, in love that illumines every broken thing it finds.
